LED TVs are now gaining a very strong presence in the market. The LED Technology used in these televisions is being marketed in a lot of different ways.

As well as Samsung LED TVs there are also a range of television by Sony which are available using similar technology. Sonys technology is called Motion Flow. Typically you will find 120Hz Motion Flow TVs and 240Hz Motion TVs, both have different refresh rates and use motion interpolation to display repeated or new frames quicker and improve overall picture quality and clarity in any kind of movie, game or television program.

You can read all about Sony Motion Flow TVs here

You will find different makes/models and specifications as well as a more in depth look at Motion Flow Technology.

Well first off all I would like to say WOW. I have had the blog up for about a month now and have done countless amounts of research on LED TVs and have seen lots of LED TV pictures, but I really didn’t appreciate how great they are until I saw one in the flesh. I walked into Comet yesterday and it was the first thing I saw and I’ve got to admit I was very very impressed.

The picture quality, although noticeably better than your standard LCD TV is not the most impressive part of it. The film showing on the LED TV was not an action film with fast moving images, it was a normal kind of everyday film, but boy can you notice the difference. The camera pans as it would do in any film, from one person to another, and that is where the biggest difference lye’s. The first thing you notice is that the images keep amazing clarity as the camera moves, and it is very noticeable, especially when you go back on home to a normal LCD TV. To be quite honest I didn’t thing the difference would be that great, especially to the point that I would pick it up in the first 10 seconds of looking at it. After that I spent a further 10 minutes staring and contemplating how I can raise the money for one of these.

The more you watch, the more you see the difference and if a normal everyday program/film shows a big difference, I can only begin to imagine how amazing an LED TV would be for gaming or action films. After I managed to blink, I had a walk around it and again was truly amazed. The size!! Although I know LED TVs are Ultra Thin, again, I don’t believe you can really appreciate how big a difference there is until you see one in real life. The LED TV I was looking at was a Samsung, UE40B6000/A, series 6, 40″ Box Set in Rose Black, and the good news is the price is started to come down.

To wrap up, believe the hype! LED TVs are the future!

Hitachi P42H401 42-Inch HD1080 Plasma HDTV

May 30th, 2009 admin No comments

Amazon.com Product Description
The Hitachi P42H401 is a 42-inch plasma HDTV that brings extraordinary value with a unique HD1080 resolution standard.

Outstanding Picture Quality
With a unique 1280 x 1080 resolution, the P42H401 has over 1,000 lines of vertical resolution, allowing it to have a line-for-line match of incoming 1080i TV signals. While it is not the full 1080p resolution, it has a better resolution than 720p panels at a similar price. Picture quality is further enhanced, thanks to ClearWindow technology that reduces the visibility of a grid structure and maximizes brightness and clarity.

With the PictureMaster HD IV processor, all video inputs are scaled to match the native resolution of the unit to ensure a detailed picture no matter the source. For a better picture, the processor also performs noise reduction and other picture enhancements, such as dynamic contrast and histogram processing, automatic 3:2 film enhancement, and the capability for 16-bit color. Users can select between four HD and six SD aspect modes, and three preset color temperatures.

Well Connected
The P42H401 has three HDMI SimplayHD inputs (two rear, one front), the highest quality connection available that has both high definition video and audio in one cable. It also has two component video inputs, one S-Video input, four A/V inputs, and one RF/Antenna input. Outputs include one AV monitor output (fixed audio), one S-Video monitor output, and one optical digital audio output. You can connect the optical digital audio output with your home theater system to obtain surround sound when the built-in 20-watt speaker system isn’t quite enough. The TV speaker can then be used as a center speaker.

There are built-in ATSC/NTSC tuners, both of which are combined into one tuning memory for seamless selection of channels, regardless of format. The unit is also QAM-digital-cable compatible.

Day and Night Differences
The P42H401 allows for three custom settings that match the picture settings with accompanying ambient light conditions so that you get the optimal picture and contrast settings no matter the hour. Additionally, the anti-reflective screen ensures a quality picture by reducing glare and deepening blacks for more contrast and detail. The television also features multiple screen saver and power saving modes for efficiency when not in use.

The P42H401 is backed by a 1-year parts and labor warranty.

LED and DLP Technology

May 4th, 2009 admin No comments

From early 1900’s scientists have been experimenting with creating light from various materials.  In the 1950’s the LED (Light Emitting Diode) was discovered. Significant improvements in the production of certain chemical structures have allowed for improved brightness in green and blue specifically. Additional colors such as amber and cyan are also being developed at a rapid pace.

These improvements enable system designs that can produce better color fidelity at near equivalent brightness to common lamp-based technologies with longer lifetimes. Additional performance enhancements include system level features like instant on, no mercury, no color refresh artifacts, dynamically adjustable brightness, and improved color gamuts.

The rapid switching capabilities of LED technology match perfectly with the fast switching properties of DLP technology. By taking advantage of the high speed capabilities of the DMD and LEDs, it is now possible to utilize color refresh rates that are much higher than what exists with today’s designs. It is also possible to randomize the color order. Ultimately, images can be created with higher bit depth, better motion fidelity, and higher brightness. By increasing the switching frequency of the LEDs, it is possible to drive them with increased power while minimizing the thermal loading of the PN junction.

These fast switching capabilities of DLP technology take advantage of the new LED colors that are becoming available, providing much more flexibility for multiple color configurations using a single DMD device. With a DLP system, the LEDs do not require polarization, reflecting the light precisely off of the DMD mirror surface. The light is used efficiently, only when it is needed. This maximizes brightness and system efficiency while reducing heat. The net result is a lower system cost with higher brightness and larger color gamuts that far exceed those possible by traditional systems utilizing other common illumination sources.

As LED technology developments continue to improve brightness and reliability, LED illumination may become more of a mainstream light source for many future applications. Future developments will be able to take further advantage of the fast LED switching time to improve video performance, enhance contrast without opto-mechanical components, and create adjustable color gamuts that far exceed the possibilities of traditional illumination sources. New products will soon benefit from these fundamental capabilities providing new, unique designs that offer instant on, better colors, and overall better picture using the speed of DLP micromirror arrays. With the advantages of LED and DLP technologies working together, it is expected that DLP HDTVs will provide even better performance with better reliability far exceeding any existing DLP HDTV product.
